Tinder for casual dating: be clear, not careless

If you want casual dating, say so respectfully and check that the other person wants the same thing. A match is not consent, a commitment or an agreement about what happens next.

Keep the profile honest

Use current photos and language that represents what you actually want. Avoid implying commitment to get a conversation started. You can keep personal details private while being clear about your relationship intentions.

Ask before assuming

An opening conversation can establish what each person is looking for and what feels comfortable. Accept a mismatch without bargaining. Casual dating still requires respect, communication and consent.

Start with free conversations

Tinder’s current overview says its free version includes matching and chatting. Consider an upgrade only for a specific documented feature. We do not have evidence that buying visibility improves compatibility.

Keep perspective

You can end a conversation, turn down a date or take a break. Nobody owes access to their time or body because they matched. For practical meeting and scam precautions, read our online-dating safety guide.
