Swipe or Pass is a research publication. Our publisher has not personally joined, used or tested the platforms reviewed here. We do not create dating profiles, interview users or claim firsthand results.
Four kinds of information, kept separate
- Company claims: feature descriptions, marketing, help pages and policies. We attribute them and link to the source.
- Independently verifiable facts: findings supported by primary public records or credible independent evidence. An advertised feature does not establish effectiveness.
- User-review patterns: only with a documented sample, dates and credible sources. We account for selection bias. No pattern analysis is claimed in this initial edition.
- Editorial analysis: our explanation of who a documented feature may suit and what tradeoff it creates.
How we research
We start with current official feature, subscription, privacy and cancellation documentation. We record source links and check dates, compare contradictory statements and identify regional limitations. Prices need a currency, billing period and source; if a checkout price cannot be verified, we say so.
The 100-point framework
| Dimension | Points |
|---|---|
| Safety and privacy | 25 |
| Match quality and intended audience | 20 |
| Features and usability | 15 |
| Value for money | 15 |
| Transparency and cancellation | 15 |
| Customer support | 10 |
Each scored dimension needs an evidence-linked explanation of strengths, limitations and points withheld. Safety considers reporting, verification, data practices and enforcement evidence. Audience considers fit and credible outcomes. Features considers capabilities and access limits. Value considers usable free features and verified full costs. Transparency considers clarity and exit steps. Support considers access and credible resolution evidence.
We do not award full marks just because a company lists a feature. A score requires sufficient evidence across all six dimensions. When evidence is insufficient, we publish an editorial fit verdict with no numeric total. A Swipe or Pass describes suitability for a stated purpose; it is not a measured performance rating.
- 80–100: Strong Swipe
- 65–79: Swipe for the right person
- 50–64: Proceed cautiously
- Below 50: Pass
What a Swipe means
A fit recommendation means the documented offering may suit a stated goal. It is not a guarantee of safety, dates or relationship success. A Pass can simply mean a poor fit for your priorities.
Updates and corrections
Visible dates reflect an editorial check, not an automated daily refresh. We aim to recheck material claims at least quarterly and sooner when a change is identified. Unsupported historical claims are withdrawn. Our contact page shows the current correction-channel status. Affiliate status does not enter our recommendation logic or buy a verdict.
